Cool, warm, sunny, spring days
deserve a little funk on repeat.

Evergreens, tulips, and hyacinths
deserve to feel the rhythms of your groove
and see the contours of your smile.

But Lucy hides in plain sight
and slithers into your quiet place
when you hit a rock,
when your road forks in two.

Swerve his ass
and know
that the voices in your ear whispering fear
are just your demons
trying to take your foot
off their necks.

Level the playing field.
Make moves. Break rules. 
Let your song take root.
The fool can only do as much damage
as you allow him to.
