Holy Saturday

The Friday was Good
because the temple curtain,
from top to bottom,
was torn in two.
The temple curtain that said you
and I
had no right, no place, no safety
in the presence of the Almighty God—
that curtain, that wall, that priest, that preacher, that prophet,
that animal sacrifice, that innocent blood, that offering
would no longer be necessary.
The final Lamb was slain.
The endless, bottomless debt was paid.

The Friday was Good
because Barabbas was freed,
because we
are Barabbas,
because the nails
went through Him,
Messiah, Savior, God with us,
born in a manger,
crushed like grapes on a cross for the wayward.

The Friday was Good,
not because Jesus suffered,
but because we didn’t.
Don’t speak. Don’t argue.
Don’t bullshit and act like there is anything about you
that could pay back the gift of an eternity.
Reflect. Assess. Accept. Take a breath.
And rest.

This Saturday is Holy
because on the 6th day,
His work was finished.
On the 7th day, He rested.
And tomorrow—
tomorrow everything
changes.
